Home in Place recognises the service and leadership of Kwesi Addo, Group Chair, and the contribution he has made to the organisation over an extended period of change and growth.

Kwesi’s association with Home in Place spans over twenty years, encompassing his appointment to the Board and his stewardship as Chair. During this time, the organisation has undergone significant transformation, evolving from a small regional community housing provider into a multi-jurisdictional organisation operating across Australia and New Zealand.

When Kwesi first became involved with the organisation, then known as Newmacq, it managed 501 homes with a small team of seven staff working from a single office in regional New South Wales. Governance systems were still developing, and tenant, youth and community initiatives were minimal and largely informal.

Over time, Home in Place has expanded significantly in scale and capability. The organisation now manages 7,671 homes across Australia and New Zealand, supported by a workforce of 270 staff operating from 15 offices. It is a Tier One registered community housing provider and a Specialist Disability Accommodation provider, delivering social, affordable and disability housing at scale.

This growth has been supported by stronger financial and governance foundations. In 2004, the organisation recorded a net operating surplus of $223,200. In 2024, Home in Place recorded a net operating surplus of $26.8 million, supporting long-term sustainability and reinvestment. Governance has matured into a robust framework, supported by policies and process documents that reflect the organisation’s increased scale and complexity.

During Kwesi’s board tenure, Home in Place also broadened its role beyond housing delivery. This period included the establishment of programs and initiatives supporting opportunity, connection and wellbeing, including Grow a Star, community hubs such as The Meeting Place and 123 Hub, and a wide range of tenant activities focused on participation and community connection.

Alongside service delivery, Home in Place has become a sustained voice advocating for more social and affordable housing to be built by governments, contributing to broader conversations about housing supply and affordability.

Home in Place thanks Kwesi for his leadership in governance, and stewardship through decades of growth and transformation, and for the lasting impact of his contribution to the organisation.
