Queensland Tenants

In Queensland, Home in Place delivers social housing that supports stability, independence and long-term housing security.

We place strong value on tenant perspectives and create opportunities for tenants to be involved through local activities, events and feedback channels. Tenant stories, surveys and shared experiences help inform our services and strengthen our advocacy, ensuring tenant voices continue to guide our work.

Paying your rent

We offer a range of rent payment options to suit different circumstances. Paying rent on time helps maintain your tenancy and supports the ongoing management and upkeep of your home.

Information about available payment methods, statements and support options is provided on our Rent, payments and bonds page.

If you are experiencing financial difficulty or anticipate trouble paying rent, please contact your Tenancy Relations Officer as early as possible. Early contact allows us to discuss support options and, where appropriate, work with you to find a solution.

Rent reviews

In Queensland, tenants’ rent is reviewed annually, in line with current Queensland legislation and program requirements.

Rent reviews take into account household income and other relevant factors. Tenants are notified in writing of any rent adjustments and provided with information about when changes take effect.

Queensland Government tenancy services and support

Queensland tenants may be eligible for support through a range of Queensland Government services, including:

Rental bonds

A rental bond is payable when signing your Residential Tenancy Agreement.

For Queensland tenants, the bond payable is equal to four weeks of subsidised rent, in line with Queensland legislation.

If you are unable to pay the bond in full, please speak with your Tenancy Relations Officer before signing your lease. In some cases, a payment plan may be arranged.

More information on rental bonds is available here.

Bond Loans

Tenants can apply for Bond Loans through the Department of Housing and Public Works.

A Bond Loan is an interest-free loan of up to a maximum of four weeks rent for eligible people who cannot afford to pay a full rental bond. It must be repaid.

More information on the scheme and eligibility can be found on the Queensland Government website.

Rental Grants

A rental grant is a one-off grant of two weeks rent to help meet some of the costs of moving into rental accommodation.

A rental grant helps people experiencing a housing crisis. It does not have to be repaid.

More information on Rental Grants is available on the Queensland Government website.

RentConnect

The RentConnect Advisory Service provides practical advice and information on how to find and apply for a suitable property. The service also helps people complete a rental application and links them to local real estate agents and community services.

More information on RentConnect is available on the Queensland Government website.

Helping Hand Headlease

The Helping Hand Headlease program supports people who can afford to rent in the private rental market but are having trouble accessing it.

Through the program, the government leases private rental properties and sub-lets them to eligible tenants. At the end of the leases, if all parties agree, the government can work with managing real estate agencies to transfer the leases to tenants.

More information on the program can be found on the Queensland Government website.

Water usage

Water usage is charged in line with Queensland legislation. Where applicable, tenants are responsible for paying water usage charges for their home.

Water charges are shown separately on tenant statements and are payable in addition to rent. This helps ensure transparency about how charges are calculated and applied.

For more information please refer to our Policies page.

Complaints and feedback

We are committed to listening to tenants and responding to concerns fairly, respectfully and in line with Queensland Government requirements.

Feedback helps us improve our services, while complaints provide an opportunity to address issues and resolve them appropriately.

Information on how to make a complaint or provide feedback, including what to expect during the process, is available on our complaints and feedback page.

Housing transfers

If you are an existing Home in Place tenant in Queensland, you may be eligible to apply for a transfer to another property managed by Home in Place.

Transfers are assessed in accordance with Queensland Government housing policies and program requirements and are generally considered where a tenant’s current property no longer meets their household needs.

To discuss eligibility for a transfer, please contact your Tenancy Relations Officer on 1300 333 733.
