Are you a Home in Place tenant in NSW looking for a new career opportunity? Applications are now open for the 2027 CHIA NSW Cadetship Program.
The program gives people the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Certificate IV in Housing while completing 12 months of paid, full time employment with a community housing provider.
You do not need experience working in housing. The cadetship is designed to provide practical workplace experience, training and support while introducing participants to the many different roles and career opportunities within community housing.
Could it be for you?
To apply for the 2027 program, you must live in NSW, be aged 20 or older, be able to study at Certificate IV level and work full time, and be interested in working in community housing.
CHIA NSW particularly encourages applications from people who may experience barriers to secure employment, including social housing tenants and other social housing clients aged 25 and over.
Applications close Friday 2 October 2026.
See where a cadetship can lead
Home in Place has seen first hand the opportunities the program can create.
Home in Place tenant Elaina Byrne joined the program as our first CHIA NSW cadet, completing her qualification while gaining practical experience with our teams. At the end of her cadetship, she successfully applied for a permanent role with Home in Place.
More recently, Hannah joined Home in Place through the cadetship after hearing about the opportunity through her family’s Tenant Relations Officer. She completed her Certificate IV in Housing in 2026 and has since joined Home in Place as a Customer Service Officer.
