Home in Place Tenancy Relations Officer Christy Gillin was invited to speak at the Australasian Housing Institute’s International Women’s Day event held at NSW Parliament House last Friday.

Christy attended the event as the 2025 Australasian Brighter Future Award recipient in the Future Leader category, recognising her contribution and leadership within the community housing sector.

The event brought together leaders from across housing, government and the community sector to reflect on this year’s theme, Collective Leadership: Empowering women to balance the scales by driving gender equality and social justice.

In her address, Christy reflected on her 13 years working in social housing and the role stable housing plays in people’s lives.

“Housing is more than a roof,” she told attendees. “It is stability, identity and the foundation from which people can rebuild.”

Christy spoke about the experiences that have shaped her leadership approach, including supporting complex tenancies, strengthening internal systems and contributing to the establishment of the Home in Place office in Taree following the Social Housing Management Transfer on the Mid North Coast.

She also emphasised the importance of collaboration across the sector, highlighting the role partnerships play in addressing increasingly complex housing challenges and improving outcomes for tenants and communities.

The event was hosted by the Australasian Housing Institute NSW Branch, with long-time social housing advocate Unis Goh serving as convenor of the 2026 International Women’s Day event.

Home in Place was proud to support the event as a sponsor and to see Christy recognised among leaders working to strengthen and shape the future of community housing.
