New Generation Boarding House Program

Home in Place delivered a modern, purpose-built boarding house in Adamstown, Newcastle as part of the NSW Government’s New Generation Boarding House Program.

This innovative housing model provides community-based accommodation for people with disability, supporting them to build skills and confidence on the path to independent living.

A supportive step towards independence

The boarding house operates under a partnership between Home in Place and disability support provider Aruma. Together, we ensure that residents receive the support they need in a safe and stable environment.

The residence includes:

  • 10 private rooms, each with a personal ensuite

  • Spacious layouts allowing for individual lounge or dining setups

  • Shared kitchen and laundry facilities

  • Common lounge areas to encourage connection and community

While residents share common areas, the thoughtful design gives each person privacy and a sense of home. The boarding house was designed to blend into the local streetscape, appearing more like a group of self-contained units than an institutional setting.

Designed for dignity and inclusion

The building features contemporary design and materials, with a focus on accessibility, comfort and community. It reflects our commitment to creating inclusive, high-quality housing that supports people with disability to live with dignity, choice and control.

This project is a great example of how new approaches to housing can open up opportunities and improve quality of life for people who need support.
