Market Mamma harvesting food to sell at the markets

Community Aid

After achieving accreditation by the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) in 2019, Home in Place expanded its international development activities.

Our international activities have seen Home in Place tenants, staff and friends of Home in Place raising $140,000 to rebuild two important community hubs in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. Both projects involved discussion with the chiefs of several tribes in the country.

Our current project in Vanuatu is to develop safe and secure overnight accommodation for female vendors at the local market in the community of Freswota, many of whom travel great distances to sell their produce and do not have appropriate accommodation nearby.

You can help!

Vanuatu Women’s Markets Donation Appeal

What if your family’s only source of income was selling produce you have grown at the local market?

What if you had to walk miles with your children to get there, and had to stay for days until you had sold it?

What if you had nowhere safe to sleep or to store your goods and you were exposed to the elements the whole time?

This is daily life for many women in Vanuatu.

Our neighbours in the Pacific need our support more than ever. In addition to our local charity commitments, the team at Home in Place have pledged to assist in the development of a women’s shelter for this community facing climate change impacts and where inequality and social sustainability is a constant concern.

The shelter will provide a safe place for these women who travel great distances, to stay and to sell their produce at the markets and to store their goods.

Help us build the shelter by donating to the Market Mamma’s Donation Appeal
