In the spirit of community collaboration, the Newcastle Fringe Festival partnered with Home in Place to provide 50 free tickets to tenant families, opening the door to a vibrant program of performances throughout March.

The initiative was designed to remove barriers to participation and ensure that more people in our community can experience the joy and connection that comes from arts and culture. For many families, attending live performances can be financially out of reach, making opportunities like this not just meaningful, but transformative.

Through this partnership, Home in Place tenant families were able to attend a diverse range of Fringe shows, from comedy and cabaret to theatre and music, experiencing firsthand the creativity and energy that the festival brings to Newcastle each year.

Michelle Faithfull, Events & Partnerships Manager at Home in Place, said the collaboration reflects the power of community partnerships in action.

“Access to arts and culture shouldn’t be a luxury. It’s about connection, expression and belonging. Opportunities like this create shared experiences for families and open up new worlds, particularly for young people who may never have attended a live performance before.”

The Newcastle Fringe Festival has long been known for its inclusive and accessible approach to the arts, and this partnership further demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the festival is for everyone.

Festival organisers said they were proud to work alongside Home in Place to extend the reach of the festival into the community.

“We believe the arts should be accessible to all, and we’re thrilled to be able to share the Fringe experience with families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend,” Fringe Festival Director, Rebecca Fitzgibbons said.

Beyond the performances themselves, the initiative created moments of joy, connection and inspiration, reinforcing the important role that arts and cultural experiences play in building stronger, more inclusive communities.

As cost-of-living pressures continue to impact families across the region, partnerships like this highlight what’s possible when organisations come together with a shared purpose: creating opportunities, fostering inclusion, and making sure no one is left on the sidelines of community life.
