Yesterday, the Council for International Development (CID) hosted an important meeting at the Papua New Guinea (PNG) High Commission in Wellington, bringing together key representatives from both the CID and the Papua New Guinea government. The meeting included Hon. James Marape, Prime Minister of PNG, and senior government officials from both PNG and New Zealand.

The primary focus of the discussions was on PNG’s development priorities, with CID members providing updates on ongoing projects and exploring new opportunities for collaboration. This meeting provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two nations and deepen cooperation in areas critical to PNG’s growth.

Dr Bernadette Pinnell, Global Business Director at Home in Place, was among the key figures present, contributing to discussions on housing and employment-related accommodation. as Home in Place explores ways to support housing initiatives in PNG.

With PNG preparing to host the Pacific Urban Forum in October 2025, these discussions were both timely and constructive.

The meeting not only highlighted existing collaboration but also paved the way for future partnerships aimed at accelerating sustainable development in PNG and the Pacific region.
