Commonwealth Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF)

Through the Commonwealth Government’s Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF), Home in Place delivered 20 purpose-built Community Residences for young people with severe and profound disabilities who had been living in aged care facilities.

This national initiative aimed to address the critical shortage of accessible, supported housing options for people with disability—providing more choice, greater independence and better quality of life.

A new way of living

Each home was architecturally designed and achieved Platinum level under the Australian Livable Housing Design Guidelines. These homes include features that make daily life easier, safer and more functional—offering individualised, high-quality community housing tailored to people with complex support needs.

For many residents, this project has meant living independently for the first time in their lives, in homes that feel like their own.

The SAIF program provided:

  • Supported accommodation in small, community-based settings

  • Alternatives to institutional or aged care living

  • Homes designed around accessibility, functionality and dignity

  • Safe, stable housing with wraparound tenancy and support

Ongoing support and engagement

Home in Place continues to provide tenancy and asset management, along with community engagement programs to help residents feel connected and supported in their new homes.

This program has had a life-changing impact—supporting greater inclusion, independence and quality of life for people with disability.
